Timber Deck Sanding
If you have a timber deck at your property, you probably love the look of the deck when it has a nice, fresh coat of decking oil applied. However, like most people, you probably hate the job of sanding back the deck in order to prepare it for re-coating.
Sanding the decking to strip away the old coating can be a very laborious and time-consuming job that no one enjoys doing.
When performing the deck sanding job, it is common to use tools like belt and orbital sanders, or if the area is large a drum sander machine may be used. The use of this type of sanding equipment means that a large amount of sandpaper is required to perform the job, which adds to the cost. Additionally, these sanders will also remove a portion of the timber and in some cases, leave marks and scars on the timber surface.
These sanding techniques are also affected by dome nails, which are a common sight on timber decking. Many people will hammer these down to allow for the sanding equipment to be used, however doing this will usually cause the timber planks to slip up over the nail and become loose.
Fortunately, we have a better alternative to these sanding techniques.
At The Stain Eaters, we have specialist brush sander machines that uses a bristled wheel rather than sandpaper. As the wheel spins, the bristles quickly and gently remove the old deck coating without any impact on the timber and are not affected by nail heads or un-even boards.
This brush sanding process is actually good for the timber deck as it opens the pores of the wood which allows for better penetration of the new decking oil. This means a deeper soaking of the oil into the timber fibres, making for better nourishment and a longer lasting finish.
Our specialist brush sanding process is usually much quicker to complete that traditional sanding methods, so the job can often be completed in less time.
