Removing Hydraulic Oil Stains
Car lifters in apartment building carparks are becoming more common as developers look for ways to cater for greater numbers of people living in the one building. Similar to what is used in a mechanic’s workshop, these car lifters use a hydraulic system to lift the vehicle off the ground an allow for another car to be parked underneath.
There are times when a car lifter in an underground basement bursts a hydraulic hose, and the results can be disastrous. Not only is there a risk of injury or damage to the equipment, but hydraulic oil can also spread out over a large area and stain the concrete, leaving behind unsightly and potentially hazardous residue. Like the example here.
In order to effectively clean up an oil spill of this nature, it is important to have a plan in place and to use the right tools and techniques.
At The Stain Eaters, our method for cleaning up such oil spills involves the applications of a 3-stage cleaning solution process. This process involves using a combination of cleaning solutions to break down and remove the oil from the surface of the concrete as well as within the substrate. The first stage involves using a solution to break down the oil and loosen it from the surface. Next, another specialist solution is applied to emulsify the oil, allowing it to be easily rinsed away. Finally, a neutralizer is applied to neutralize any remaining cleaning solutions and prepare the surface for final cleaning.
Depending on the severity of the oil stain, this solution is left to dwell on the area to fully work on the stain. Then our team will pressure clean the treated area and vacuum recovery the waste into onboard waste tanks to remove the remaining oil and debris. The vacuum recovery system collects all the dirty water, trapping the oil and debris in onboard tanks for proper disposal.
In enclosed areas like this basement carpark, it is important to manage things like fire alarms and conducting environmental clean-ups as a precaution to prevent any potential hazards. This includes ensuring that the area is properly ventilated, and that any steam from the pressure cleaning process doesn’t set off any fire alarms.
Our unique oil stain treatment process gives great results, even in tricky locations, such as an underground basement carpark. So, if you have an oil spill that needs to be cleaned, give our customer service team a call and we’ll get it off.
