Unauthorised bill posters are a common problem on building walls, fences, and construction hoardings — and it’s the glue, not the paper, that makes them a challenge to remove properly.

Unlike spray paint graffiti, bill posters are applied using a strong, fast-drying adhesive designed to bond firmly and withstand the elements.

Peeling the paper off is the easy part — what’s left behind is a stubborn glue residue that clings to the surface, attracts dirt, and provides a ready base for the next round of posters to stick to even more firmly.

The approach varies depending on the surface, but the primary challenge is always the same — breaking down the adhesive bond and removing both the poster material and any residual glue cleanly.

Brick, Concrete, and Masonry Walls

Hot water pressure washing is our primary method on hard surfaces. The heat and pressure soften the adhesive, releasing both the poster and the glue residue from the surface. Where the adhesive is particularly heavy or stubborn, a specialist cleaning solution is applied first to break down the glue before pressure washing — making the removal process faster and more thorough.

Timber Hoardings

Timber construction hoardings require a more careful approach. Where the timber is in good, sound condition, hot water pressure washing can be effective — but pressure and temperature are carefully controlled to avoid raising the grain or damaging the timber surface.

Where the hoarding is in poorer condition, or where the adhesive is particularly resistant, a hand treatment process is used instead — applying a suitable cleaning solution carefully by hand to break down the glue without risking damage to the timber.
