Dealing With Oil Stains and Spills

No matter how much care is taken to ensure your vehicles are well maintained, more often than not some amount of oil staining will end up on your garage floor or driveway.

These often start as a few small spots here and there, but over time grow in size and number, eventually making the area look very messy and stained.

The longer that oil stains are left on the surface of a cement floor or driveway, the deeper it will soak into the substrate. This will not only leave a difficult to remove stain but can cause the surface of the concrete to slowly deteriorate.

Over time, oil will eat away and dissolve the binder of the concrete which will weaken the surface. This process causes the top of the cement surface to erode, causing it to become soft and making it more susceptible to stains and damage.

As a result, we recommend that it’s best to treat oil stains on concrete as soon as possible.

Just as important as acting quickly is the process used to treat and clean oil stains.

Products like Kitty Litter are a good choice to soak up a heavy spill but will do little to draw the stain out of a porous substrate like concrete.

Degreasers are not recommended for use on such stains either, as they will usually just result in the oil soaking deeper into the substrate. These cleaning solutions can initially help to break down the oil, but unless the correct cleaning equipment is used to rinse and wash away the cleaning solution treatment quickly the oil won’t be effectively removed.

Our team of Technicians are highly experienced at dealing with oil stains of all sizes and have a complete range of cleaning solutions and equipment that allows them to provide the best possible oil stain removal result every time.

This includes the use of super-heated water in the rinse and wash down process, as the heat from the hot water helps to more effectively draw out the oil where it can be vacuum recovered using our commercial grade spin-jet cleaning units.
