Anti Slip Treatments For Masonry Tiles
Many masonry floor tiles can get slippery with age due to constant foot traffic which smooths the surface reducing the co-efficient of friction.
For many tile types though, this can be improved by using an anti-slip treatment that roughens the surface of the tile creating extra grip.
The example photos here show a terracotta tiled area that pre treatment registered 0.33 co-efficient of friction and after treatment registered 0.62 co-efficient of friction.
This change was a 50% improvement and made a noticeable improvement to the grip feel under foot.
The co-efficient of friction is a measure of surface shear grip and produces a measurement between 0 and 1. ‘Zero’ being no grip and ‘one’ being very grippy.
The process is quick to perform and comes with a friction report that goes along way in not only reducing a slip fall, but also in terms of demonstrating good risk management practices in the event of a claim arising as part of your OH&S audit.
